馮建中 John Fung Kin-Chung
Photographer John Fung Kin-Chung was born in Madagascar, Africa. At the age of 13, he moved back to Asia with his family and was educated in Macau. John finally settled in Hong Kong where he had a number of jobs including starring in films, working on construction sites, opening restaurants and making lamps, but all along he never put down his camera.
In the 1980s, John Fung held four photographic exhibitions: “Germs”, “Cocoon”, “Ten Years On” and “On the Road”. In 1988, he received two grants, from the British Council and the Asian Cultural Council, to study in London and New York City. After his return to Hong Kong in 1989, John worked as a documentary photographer for Next Magazine and Ming Pao Weekly Magazine until 2004. In 2005, he was invited by Oxfam and Greenpeace Hong Kong as a volunteer photographer to document areas which had been devastated by the 2004 tsunami travelling to Africa and Southeast Asia. He continues to participate in voluntary work for non-profit organizations.
John Fung now works as a full-time artist in Hong Kong. In 2008, his photography book “One Square Foot” was published by MCCM Creations. In 2009, he was one of the Hong Kong artists selected for Sotheby’s Sale of Contemporary Asian Art in Hong Kong. In 2020, "Let There Be Light" was published which includes most of the best "Water...Now" series. Over the years, his works were featured in different magazines, also exhibited at Hanart Square, Asia Society, Hong Kong Arts Centre, Hong Kong Heritage Museum in Hong Kong, Eslite Bookstores and Taiwan International Visual Arts Centre in Taiwan, as well as Guangdong Museum of Art and Novosibirsk State Art Museum. His works are in many private collections.
香港攝影藝術家馮建中，在非洲的馬達加斯加出生。他在13歲時與家人回到亞洲，並在澳門接受教育。馮建中最後在香港定居，並從事過多種行業，其中包括演員，地盤散工，開餐廳，製造電燈等，但他始終沒有放下攝影。
愛好攝影的他於八十年代舉辦了名為「菌」、「繭」、「茫茫十年」和「路上」等多個展覽。於一九八八年，他得到英國文化協會以及亞州文化協會的資助，到倫敦和紐約進修。一九八九年回港至二零零四年間，在《壹週刊》《明報週刊》任職新聞攝影師。在二零零五年，被香港樂施會及綠色和平邀請成為義務攝影師，拍攝在二零零四年海嘯被破壞的地區，並前往非洲及東南亞等地作記錄。多年來繼續為非營利組織參與及義務工作，多年持續關注森林過度開發及全球暖化等災害問題。
馮建中現時在香港從事全職藝術家工作。作品曾於二零零八年由MCCM Creations出版攝影集「樓花」。在二零零九年四月，他被蘇富比選中的香港藝術家之一，作品以當代亞洲藝術品於蘇富比進行拍賣。多年來，馮建中的作品於多個不同地方展覽，包括：哈納特廣場、亞洲協會、香港藝術中心、香港香港文化博物館、台灣誠品書店和台灣國際視覺藝術中心，以及廣東美術館和新西伯利亞國家美術博物館等展出。作品被私人和博物館收藏。
